Yerxa Spring Novice and Pee Wee Prospects

"Four on Four Development League"

All games at the Rothesay Arena

The purpose of these leagues is to provide children, who are keen to improve their skills, an opportunity to extend their season through April and May. The primary goal of the league is to allow young hockey players a place to play competitive hockey against other skilled players. Our league is designed to foster creativity and ingenuity in their game. Teams will be made with players from many different associations. We feel this random grouping of players is especially important and will promote friendship and sportsmanship. This random grouping of players will allow players and parents to meet new teammates and make new friends. Players will have the opportunity to play in a non-threatening and low pressure league where they can have fun and refine and develop new skills.

ATOM (7,8,9) Fundamental skill development will be stressed in the 8 hours of clinics. A feature of the Atom league is on ice coaches/coordinators. These coaches are High School and Midget AAA. coaches.

The Atom league will consist of four teams of 14 players each. The teams will be balanced at the beginning of the league (skill) by the coaches and the league co-coordinator. The teams may be balanced again at some point during the league at the league coordinators discretion.

"Four on Four Development League" League Format

Four on Four hockey will be played to allow players to become more versatile and gain knowledge of both offensive and defensive strategies.

Players will be given equal ice time and power plays and specialty units will not be used.

To speed up play and MAXIMIZE ICE TIME players will only change on the fly. (in an hour your child will play 3-4 more shifts than in a standard game)

Penalized players will miss the remaining portion of their shift as well as their next full shift. Only the penalized player looses ice time.

We will endeavor to play players in their preferred position but players may be asked to play any and all positions except goalie.

The lines of the teams will be organized so players of the same approximate age and skill level play against each other.

Cost

ATOM (7,8,9) 325$ -15$ (15$ jersey deposit returned at the last game) =310$  Hst. inc.

Pee Wee (10,11,12)  265$ - 15$ (15$ jersey deposit returned at the last game) = 250$ Hst. inc.

This year will have a new 10 minute of technical skate before each game during the goalie warm-up. All Pee Wee players and coaches will be taught the technical skating circuit prior to the games on March 31 and April 1. Novice players will be taught the circuit at the power Skating Clinic on April 5. Each player will carry a puck through the circuit, which will be composed of various stops, spins and changes in direction. The circuit will finish with a shot on the goalie. Players will repeat the technical skating circuit until the goalies are warmed up and prepared to scrimmage.

ATOM (7,8,9) and PEE WEE (10,11,12)  "Four on Four Development League" Format

The Novice and Pee Wee Development Leagues will consist of four teams of 14 (13 players and a goalie) players each. The games will be "four on four". As this is a developmental league, the four on four format will promote skating skills, speed, creativity and game tactics during the games. The shifts of four will be balanced according to skill level as well as by age. By organizing the teams in this fashion we will ensure all players are challenged. For example each team may have four highly skilled 9-year-old players. These eight players (shifts of four from each team) will play against each other. Conversely, each team may have younger players who will scrimmage against each other. Prior to the league start up the coaches and the league co-coordinators will balance the teams (skill and age). The teams may be balanced again at some point during the league schedule. (League co-coordinators discretion).

This year will have a new 10 minute of technical skate before each game during the goalie warm-up. All players and coaches will be taught the technical skating circuit before their first game or at the power Skating Clinic on April 5. Each player will carry a puck through the circuit, which will be composed of various stops, maneuvers, and changes in direction. Players will finish the circuit with a shot on the goalie. Players will repeat the technical skate circuit until the goalies are warmed up and prepared to scrimmage. (10 minutes)
